The Origin of Coffee
MMM...Coffee. A daily staple for most, but how much do we really know about coffee? The residents who work in the Coffee Packaging area took a day to really find out! The coffee they had been packaging was from Ethiopia, so instructor Nate Miller led the group in learning about Ethiopia and making traditional Ethiopian Honey Bread that they enjoyed while watching a documentary about the origin and uses for coffee. The afternoon was rounded out with a Global Coffee Trade board game that was created here at Misericordia. The game tells the story of how coffee makes it from a farm in Eastern Africa all the way to Chicago. It also has a deck of coffee trivia cards that tests knowledge of coffee and its history and the game pieces, in the shape of coffee beans, were handmade from clay and painted in the ceramics studio at Misericordia.
