Resident Life: Volunteering
“Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.” ~Anonymous
Misericordia residents have a lot to give! Like most of us, they lead busy lives, but they also look for meaningful ways to share their gifts with others. Between work, daily routines and active social lives, many of the individuals who call Misericordia home enjoy giving back to the community. Our residents have participated in Park District clean-up days, volunteered at fundraising walks, raised money for disaster relief and participated in food drives, just to name a few activities. Others have found that they enjoy volunteering so much they’ve made it a regular part of their lives.
The gentlemen who live in the Misericordia Walsh CILA Home have been regular volunteers at the Inspiration Corporation Weekend Engagement Center for more than a year. They prepare lunches for people who need them, working side by side with clients of the Inspiration Café. The guys have genuinely become friends with the wonderful individuals they’ve met,and they look forward to their
continuing relationship.
Some of the ladies of our CILA Homes have been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House for several years. Once a month, they visit and make dinner for families who are staying at the House while their children are in the hospital—which means the ladies may cook for as many as thirty people at a time. The families appreciate having the help and company, and the ladies enjoy being able to share their time and cooking skills!
Misericordia and volunteering go hand-in-hand. Thousands of people step up to help us every single year. It’s nice to know that so many of our residents love to volunteer as well! If you know of an organization that might be a good fit and would appreciate the efforts many of our residents can make, contact bethm@misericordia.org.
