MAKING A BEQUEST TO MISERICORDIA
Misericordia has been blessed to have the support of so many wonderful people since its opening in 1921. Gifts at every level have allowed us to provide exceptional care despite what is happening around us, whether it be the economy or government cutbacks. It is our hope that we can continue providing these services not only to our existing residents, but also to those individuals who someday may reside at Misericordia.
What is planned giving?
Your planned gift combines your generosity with your financial planning to benefit both you and Misericordia. Planned gifts are usually gifts of your assets through such financial instruments as wills, trusts and annuities. It is strongly recommended that you consult your financial planner or accountant for assistance in making a planned gift.
Making a planned gift
Your future gift will make a difference in the lives of the over five hundred and fifty children and adult residents at Misericordia.

HEART OF MERCY SOCIETY
The Heart of Mercy Society recognizes our friends who have included Misericordia in their estate plans by providing a bequest to Misericordia. If you have already included Misericordia in your will or do so by December 2005, you will be a “Founding Member” of the Heart of Mercy Society. As a Founding Member of this Society, your name will be added to our Society wall honoring those members who have generously included Misericordia in their estate planning. You will also be invited to attend an annual luncheon to take a tour with Sister Rosemary and witness first hand the programs that we are able to provide to our residents because of your generosity.
In order to be a member of the Heart of Mercy Society, please provide a copy of the portion of your will that pertains to Misericordia or have your attorney send a letter indicating that Misericordia has been included in your will. Please direct any documents to Sister Rosemary Connelly, Misericordia Home, 6300 N. Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660.
We thank you for your consideration and encourage you to consider joining the Heart of Mercy Society. Your membership will allow us to acknowledge your generosity today and help us plan for our future. If you have any questions, please contact Kevin Connelly at 773-273-4167, or e-mail him at

GIVING THROUGH GIFT ANNUITIES
The charitable gift annuity has been used by many who wish to make a meaningful gift to Misericordia and still provide for their own future financial well-being. A gift annuity makes it possible for you to transfer cash or stock to Misericordia in exchange for a fixed payment for life. The annuity payments can be received on a quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis.
For example, Mike, who is 70 years of age, is interested in helping the children and adults of Misericordia and establishes a $25,000 gift annuity. Based on his age, Mike would receive an annual return of 6.5%, or $1,625, for the remainder of his life. He would also be eligible for a charitable deduction in the year he established the gift annuity. In addition, a portion of the income that Mike receives from the gift annuity would be excluded for income tax purposes.
Misericordia uses the charitable gift annuity rates recommended by the American Council on Gift Annuities. An annuity can also be established for two lives as well. The following are the current rates for a one-life charitable gift annuity:
| One Life |
| Your Age | Rate of Return |
| 60 | 5.7 % |
| 65 | 6.0 % |
| 70 | 6.5 % |
| 75 | 7.1 % |
| 80 | 8.0 % |
| 85 | 9.5 % |
| 90 | 11.3 % |

GIVING THROUGH INCOME PLANS
Sharing with others can be one of life's greatest pleasures, But everyday financial obligations sometimes limit what many feel they can give without jeopardizing their security or that of loved ones.
This need not always be the case. By planning and timing of your gifts, you may find you can give more at lower cost. These gift plans can also help enhance your family's quality of life both now and later.
For more information and our free brochure outlining various plans, along with the special technical advisory section, please contact Kevin Connelly at 773-273-4167, or e-mail him at kevin@misericordia.com.

GIVING THROUGH RETIREMENT PLANS
Giving a gift to Misericordia through a retirement plan, such as a 401(k), IRA, or 403(b), may allow you to eliminate a portion of the state and federal income taxes that would be owed on these plans and the taxes owed by your estate as well. By including Misericordia as the beneficiary of a percentage of your retirement assets, you can minimize your taxes, preserve more assets for your loved ones and support the mission of Misericordia Home.
It is extremely important that you consult with your financial planner or accountant before making a decision on gifting your retirement assets to a charity. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Kevin Connelly at 773-273-4167, or e-mail him at kevin@misericordia.com.
