How your donations help Misericordia Heart of Mercy to support its residents with developmental disabilities in maximizing their level of independence and self-determination within an environment that fosters spirituality, dignity, respect and enhancement of quality of life.

Misericordia is a tribute to thousands of good people who share the belief that persons with mental disabilities are entitled to the best life possible. We exist and have been able to expand because the loving, caring people we are privileged to call friends generously share their blessings with us.

The funds we receive from the State cover only a portion of our program expense. We depend upon private fundraising to provide the Special programs, which enhance the lives of our children and adults. At the present time the difference between what the State pays us and our actual program expense will is 12 Million Dollars. Operating with this difference is a cause for concern but the reality is that if we want our residents to receive high quality care we must, at this time, be prepared to supplement State funding through private donations.

When we determine that programs are necessary for the well being of our residents, we provide them whether or not they are fully funded. For example, therapeutic intervention by physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists are essential for many of our residents. With the help of grants from Private Foundations we established a state of the art therapeutic center and have hired professional staff to meet the needs of the residents. It is our hope that this intervention may one day be fully funded but it is necessary that it be provided now so we appeal to our friends for assistance.

Each of our residents is involved in an individually designed program structured to meet his/her physical, psychological, social religious, educational or vocational and recreational needs. The goal for each resident is to help him/her achieve and maintain the highest level of independence possible. Our administration, staff and volunteers work very hard to provide the residents of Misericordia with lives of dignity, beauty, challenge and respect.

We also work very hard to raise funds for building and program expansion so that we can serve more persons in need. The hundreds of people on our waiting list are a continuing source of concern. We know we can never provide residential services for all of them but with the help of our friends we have continued to grow and expand to serve more persons in need. Private donations are also used to build an Endowment Fund which will ensure our ability to provide our services for as long as they are needed.

Persons with mental disabilities are unable to create a good world for themselves but when the environment is open to their gifts they become the gift givers. Their good lives are the best way we know to thank all the good people who share our ministry. A donation, in whatever amount you can comfortably give, would be most gratefully received.
