Message from the Director

"At Misericordia we look upon each one of our children and adults as a person with individual needs, feelings, aspirations, limitations and gifts. Each one is unique, a gift to us today, a loving and loved person made by God with a purpose in life -- no matter how wrapped in mystery that purpose is. We believe, we accept, we love each person and we are a better people because they have touched our lives".

The above philosophy has been the constant guiding principle in the creation of innovative programs and services for persons with mental disabilities. Misericordia has received national recognition for its programs which were designed to help the children and adults achieve and maintain the highest level of functioning possible.
The children and adults participate in individually designed programs which meet their physical, mental, social, religious, educational, vocational and recreational needs.
Wherever possible, community programs are utilized. However, many programs were started at Misericordia because appropriate programs were not available in the community.
Our educational and vocational programs had their beginnings in this way and today they are considered models which provide creative and challenging opportunities for the participants.
